One island, done properly
We run day trips and two- to five-day tours on Phu Quoc and nowhere else. Twelve people to a boat, eight to a vehicle, and a straight answer about which trips are worth your time.
Start here
Three different questions bring people to a page like this, and they need three different answers. Pick the one that matches where you are.
You want to book something
Nine trips, each with a day-by-day plan, a price table and a list of who it does not suit. Go to the tours.
You want to know what is on the island
Five areas of Phu Quoc, what each one is actually like, and how many nights it is worth. Go to the island guide.
You are still working out the shape of the trip
When to come, how many days you need, private or shared, how to get here. Start with how many days.
The nine trips
Five of them fit inside a day. Four are short tours of two to five nights that use the island as the whole trip rather than a stopover. Prices are per person, land only, at the smallest group size we run.
| Trip | Length | From | Best months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four islands snorkelling | Day trip | USD 42 | Nov – Apr |
| North island by road | Day trip | USD 58 | Year round |
| Sunset and squid fishing | Evening | USD 29 | Oct – May |
| National park jungle trek | Day trip | USD 65 | Jun – Dec |
| Scuba diving, two dives | Day trip | USD 95 | Nov – Apr |
| Phu Quoc in 2 days | 2 days, 1 night | USD 195 | Year round |
| Phu Quoc in 3 days | 3 days, 2 nights | USD 295 | Year round |
| Phu Quoc in 4 days | 4 days, 3 nights | USD 385 | Year round |
| Phu Quoc in 5 days | 5 days, 4 nights | USD 475 | Year round |
The season column is not decoration. The An Thoi boats are a different proposition in August than in January, and the waterfalls that people photograph in October are dry rock in March. When to go sets out month by month what actually runs.
Why we are built this way
Every operator on the island says the same four adjectives. Here is what we do differently, described as a mechanism you can check rather than a promise.
Twelve people on a boat
The standard An Thoi snorkelling boat carries 35 to 45 passengers and stops at three buoys with every other boat on the island. We charter boats rigged for 12 and leave 45 minutes ahead of the fleet.
Zero shopping stops
Pearl farms, sim wine houses and fish sauce outlets pay commission per head. We do not take it, so the pepper farm we stop at is the one that is interesting rather than the one that pays.
Eight people to a vehicle
Road trips run in a 16-seat van with eight seats sold, so nobody sits in the back row over the wheel arch for four hours.
A weather call 48 hours out
If the forecast puts the sea above the working limit we tell you two days ahead and move or refund. We do not sail out and turn back at the headland.
What a trip costs, roughly
Full breakdown on the prices page, including what a quote that is 30% cheaper is usually leaving out. As a first sight of the numbers:
| If you want | Per person per day, land only | What that buys |
|---|---|---|
| A shared day trip only | USD 29 – 95 | One trip, joining a group of 8 – 12 |
| A short tour, 3-star hotels | USD 95 – 120 | Room, transfers, two guided days out |
| A short tour, 4-star hotels | USD 130 – 175 | Beachfront room, private vehicle |
| Private boat, your party only | USD 380 – 620 per boat | Whole boat, your route, your timings |
Party size. A private boat split between two people is USD 190 each; the same boat split between eight is USD 48 each. Nothing else on this island changes the price per head that violently.
How it works
- You send dates, party size and what you actually want out of the island.
- We reply within one working day with a plan and a price, and say plainly if what you want does not exist here.
- You confirm. We take a 25% deposit and hold the boats and rooms.
- The balance is due 14 days before your first service, or in cash on the island.
- You get a WhatsApp number that a person answers while you are here.
Tell us what you are after
Dates, how many of you, and one line on what would make the trip worth it.
Who we are not for
Four kinds of traveller are better served elsewhere, and we would rather say so now than after a deposit.
- People who want the USD 18 group boat. It exists, it is a real product, and 40 people on a deck is exactly what it costs. We cannot get near that number at 12.
- Anyone whose plan is to stay inside one resort. If the beach in front of your hotel is the trip, you do not need us and we will say so.
- Groups above 16. We can do it, but two vehicles and two guides means we stop being better than the big operators, so book one of them.
- Travellers whose priority is nightlife. Duong Dong closes earlier than people expect and we are the wrong company for that evening.
Questions travellers ask most
Do you run trips off Phu Quoc — Ha Tien, Rach Gia, the Mekong?
No. One island, and everything we know is on it. If you want the Mekong Delta we will point you at operators who live there, which is what we would want if the positions were reversed.
Can I book a day trip for tomorrow?
Usually, if there is space and the sea is workable. Boat trips close at 18:00 the day before because the boat has to be provisioned and the manifest filed with the port. Road trips we can take until about 21:00 the night before.
Is Phu Quoc worth five days, or is two enough?
Two days sees the An Thoi islands and one beach. Five days is the point where the north, the national park and the quiet east coast come into range, and where you stop moving every morning. How many days you need sets out what each extra night buys.
Do I need a visa for Phu Quoc?
Phu Quoc has long had its own visa-exemption arrangement separate from mainland Vietnam, and most nationalities are also covered by Vietnam's e-visa. The rules change often enough that we will not print a version here that may be out of date by the time you read it — check your own government's travel advice and the Vietnamese immigration site, and ask us if the answer is unclear.
