Day trips — the full table

All prices per person, land only, including hotel transfers within the standard zone, the guide, entrance fees and the meals listed on each trip page.

Diving does not fall with group size because the cost driver is the four-to-one guide ratio, not the boat. The road trips cap at eight because a ninth person means a second vehicle.

The break-even against shared seats sits at four to five people on boats and three on vehicles. Below that, private is a comfort purchase and we will say so rather than let you talk yourself into it. Private or shared has the arithmetic laid out.

What we actually pay for

This is the part of a price that operators normally will not show you, and it is the only part that lets you judge whether a quote is honest. These are the rates we pay on Phu Quoc in 2026, in the ranges we see across a year.

Line itemWhat it costs usPer
3-star hotel room, breakfast includedUSD 28 – 45room per night
4-star beachfront room, breakfast includedUSD 75 – 130room per night

National park entry and ranger permitUSD 11 – 17person
Airport transferUSD 12 – 18car each way
Dive tank, weights and boat shareUSD 34 – 46diver per day

Add those up for any of our trips and you land within about 20% of the price we charge. The gap is the guide's day when they are not with you, insurance, the office, the refunds we pay when a boat is cancelled, and margin. We are not going to pretend the margin is not there.

What moves the price, in order

  1. Party size. Nothing else comes close. A boat costs what it costs whether two people or twelve are on it. Going from two to six on the four islands day drops the per-head price by nearly 20%; on a private charter it halves it.
  2. Private or shared. A private boat for two is USD 210 each. Two shared seats are USD 52 each. Same water, same reefs, different product.
  3. Hotel class. The difference between a 3-star inland room and a 4-star beachfront room is USD 45 to USD 90 a night, and it is the largest single variable on any multi-day tour. It has nothing to do with the quality of the guiding.
  4. Season. Hotel rates on Phu Quoc roughly double between late December and early January, and again around Tet. Boats and guides do not change price; rooms do. Our tour prices are quoted live for your dates rather than published as a shoulder-season number you will never actually pay.
  5. Where you are staying. Pick-up from Ganh Dau, Rach Vem or Bai Thom adds a 60 to 75 minute run each way, which is a real cost and is shown as a supplement rather than hidden in the headline.
  6. Nothing else. Not the day of the week, not how you found us, not whether you ask twice.

How a quote 30% cheaper is built

You will find the same trips advertised at USD 18 to USD 25. Those are real products sold by real companies and they are not scams. They are built like this, and knowing that is more useful than being told to avoid them.

  • Forty passengers instead of twelve. The boat cost divides by three times as many people. This is the single biggest lever and it is entirely legitimate.
  • Commission stops. Pearl farm, sim wine, honey, fish sauce outlet. Each pays the operator per head and sells at roughly double market price. Your USD 18 boat is subsidised by whoever buys a necklace.
  • The driver is the guide. No separate guide fee, no one who can answer a question about pepper cultivation.
  • Lunch on a floating restaurant with a fixed contract rather than cooked on the beach. Cheaper per head, and the operator often takes a cut of the drinks.
  • Two snorkelling stops sold as three, with the third being fifteen minutes off a sandbar where there is no coral.
  • "3-star or similar" in a multi-day quote, where "similar" is resolved on the day against whatever has stock. We name the hotel in the quote.
  • No refund mechanism. A cancelled boat becomes a credit note, not money.
The honest comparison

If none of the seven items above bother you, book the cheaper trip — it is genuinely the better value for a lot of people and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we sell is twelve people instead of forty and nobody being paid to take you shopping. That is worth roughly double, and it is worth nothing at all if you do not care.

Full cancellation terms are on the booking terms page, and the payment methods and bank details are on how to pay. The short version: cancellations more than 21 days out cost you only what we have already committed and cannot recover, itemised line by line. Weather cancellations of a boat day are refunded in full, always, without you having to argue.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Why are you more expensive than the operator down the road?

Twelve people on a boat instead of forty, an actual guide as well as a driver, no commission stops, and money refunded rather than credited when the sea closes. Those four things account for essentially the whole difference, and the supplier table above lets you check the arithmetic yourself.

If those four things do not matter to you, the cheaper trip is better value and we will tell you so on the phone.

Do prices change with the season?

Boat, vehicle and guide prices do not. Hotel rates do, sharply — roughly double between about 20 December and 5 January, and again around Tet, which moves each year. That is why multi-day tours are quoted for your dates rather than listed at a single price.

Is there a discount for booking several trips?

Yes, and it is automatic rather than negotiated. Three day trips in one booking come out USD 40 to USD 60 cheaper than three booked separately, because the transfers and the guide days consolidate. Booking one of the multi-day tours is cheaper again.

What currency do you charge in?

Prices are set in US dollars and can be paid in dollars or in dong at the interbank rate on the day, with no spread added. Card payments go through a payment link and carry the processor's fee, shown separately at cost rather than built into the price.
